Dance Party

This Saturday I got to have a play date with my two super cute nephews! We went to this indoor play ground thing, and video arcade! (we had to choose something indoors, as it was FREEZING that day) After playing all morning- I decided it was time for lunch, when I asked my nephew what he wanted to eat- he responded with "Candy".... I told him we were going to have some "Candy Fries" and "Candy Nuggets" and some yummy "Candy Pop" for lunch... he thought that was a good idea! When we were at Wendy's eating our Candy for lunch, the boys and I had a little dance party!

Before & After

Cam has been quite busy around the apartment. Our recent (meaning September....) project was adding a back splash to our kitchen! here are the pictures.

As you can see from these photo's we haven't finished putting the molding on top and below the cabinets. It is almost finished now! It feels like these last reno projects are taking the longest!
The bathroom is almost 100% finished, Cam just needs to build me a medicine cabinet and then some touch up painting!

Welcome to the world of employment

I got a real job!!!!
I started today! I got a position as a sales coordinater at a marketing/branding company. So basically all those mugs/pens/t-shirts/calculaters with companies logos that they hand out? I sell that. Basically anything you can think of, they can put a logo on!!
I am pretty excited about it all, I really like all the people I'll be working with it. It's a bit of a smaller company so it's important that I get along with my co-workers.
It was a really hard decision to make as I had always envisioned myself in the financial industry, so going into marketing and sales was unexpected. However i'm ready to join the world of employment!

Get a haircut, and get a real job

Those are the wise words that my older sister spoke to me on the phone today while I was telling her my frustrations about trying to find a job.

Just to clarify i'm not having any difficulties finding a 'job' those $12-$15/hr jobs seem to find me just fine, i've had plenty of those opportunities.... but a girl has gotta have some standards right?

As a recent university grad yeah maybe I did have a slightly skewed vision of what it would be like trying to find a job after I graduated. but honestly is it to much to ask for a full time job, that requires a little thought.... I mean, i'm not looking for a job that a high school drop out could do. I want one that challenges me, that I can use my skills and develop new ones.

Anyway this week has been a little depressing as my temp job for September ended and I thought i'd have a permanent position lined up by now.

On the plus side I do have a couple interviews lined up this week that I am really looking forward to... hopefully by next week I will re-enter the work force and once again be a contributing member of society!!!

So Grateful!

I just have to say how grateful I am for my husband, and for my mom. I honestly don't know what I would've done without them this week.

Earlier this week i've been having troubles sleeping... on Wednesday I woke up in the middle of the night with stomach pain.... Cam took care of me all morning while I was throwing up. I thought I just had the stomach flu and sent him to school... a few hours later I thought I was going to die.. I had the worst pains in my lower abdomen.. i've honestly never felt anything like it, I couldn't breath through it I was just crying from pain. Since Cam is at school I call my Mom, she looks up my symptoms and sets me up with Health Link. They suggest that I go into the hospital immediately as my symptoms look like I may have an ectopic pregnancy. I text Cameron and tell him he needs to leave class now and take me to the hospital....

the whole drive over to the hospital I was just praying that this pain would stop, and that it wasn't an ectopic pregnancy. We get to the ER and while the Nurse was assessing me I started throwing up again (I gave her some warning so she got me the garbage can just in time) My pain was in my lower abdomen on the left side which also made the triage nurse think it was a ectopic pregnancy.

While I was waiting in the ER to get admitted I was in so much pain... I kept going up to the nurses and asking them how long it would be. They were probably so annoyed with me. When I finally got admitted then stuck in an IV and gave me some Morphine..... that was the best thing to ever happen to me.

They loaded me up with fluids and then took me to get an ultra sound.... I was so worried and kept thinking about the worst that it could be. During the ultra sound the technician wasn't allowed to say anything.. so I had to wait for the doctor to come in... as soon as he came in I asked him to tell me what was wrong with me... turns out it was my appendix!! I was so relieved.. so most peoples appendix is on the right side of their body... mine was in my pelvis on the lower left side... apparently they can move around a bit because they are only attached on one side, but mine was in a pretty odd spot.

Anyway they scheduled me for an emergency appendectomy, and I went into surgery at about 10:30 (a little less than 12 hours after I was admitted) they told me that if they had waited any longer my appendix would've burst.... so I'm grateful I didn't have to feel that pain!

When I got out of surgery at midnight my Mom had driven up from calgary to be with me.. I was a little loopy from the anesthetic so my mom and Cam came back thursday morning. Cam has class all day on thursday (from 8-3) so my mom stayed with me all day. The hospital was at full capacity so I wasn't even in a room, I was in the broom closet (no joke, I'll get the pics from my mom) Cam hung up a sheet on the wall so I had a little privacy.

Anyway I had to stay in the hospital for 24 hours, but they don't really discharge in the middle of the night so I had to stay till morning. but i'm back home now and I have the 2 best helpers a girl could ever ask for!

I am so grateful to have a mom who will just drop everything when I call to drive up to Edmonton to take care of me. I am also so lucky to have a husband who will stay by my bedside all night.

Sorry if this post was a little too much information. I'm going to start blogging more so that I can remember these times of my life. Especially since this was my very first hospital visit!

The results

So I know it's kind of hard to tell in this picture because I still refuse to take a full room shot till it's all perfect and the way I want it. But you can see that white cover on the left side of the picture where the light use to be, and where the fan is now! In the complete center of the room! it works fantastic!

annnd here is my new space.

I think it looks much better!

DIY Projects

Now that Cameron and I have returned backed to the city of champions, I have been busy applying for jobs. However in the mean time I have had time to think up a few little projects i'd like to do around the house and so has Cam.

My Project: The Office Space (aka the corner of our bedroom where the computer is)

Currently looks like this

I'm hoping to add some color, and some wall organizers.

Cam's Project: Install bedroom fan

Our bedroom ceiling currently, We live in an older building so the lights were all awkwardly placed throughout the unit. Our bedroom light is right over the entrance to the closet, so Cam is going to center it to the middle of the room, and add a fan!

(more pictures to come once I clean the bedroom so you can see how awkward it really is)

Farewell Shuswap

So my family has a cabin on the Shuswap Lake, I've been going out there every summer for my entire life. My mom and my Grandpa built this cabin when she was teenager, so it's a special place. As our my family has grown the cabin has not, and my parents decided it was time to move on from the Shuswap, so they purchased a new cabin on Lake Wasa in BC. I am so excited for this new cabin for so many reasons! Our cabin on Shuswap is boat access only, and built on the side of a mountain, so every time we get there we have to unload all our stuff including groceries up all these stairs. I also won't miss having to be putting the boat out in pouring rain because a storm suddenly blew in. However there are still a lot of things I will miss.

The Cabin

(I really like Cam's face in the above photo...)

(My Mom's last night at the cabin)

(My two super cute nephews)

(My nieces going on an awesome tube ride)

(Me doing a chick fall)

Good bye cabin, i'll sure miss this view!

I did it!

On Thursday Cam and I took a quick trip up to Edmonton from Magrath to attend my Convocation. Although it was a lot of driving (5 and half hours each way) it was definitely worth it. It was so nice that my parents were able to come up for it as well. My mom was awesome and took tons of photo's for me! The ceremony wasn't too long which was nice, and after we enjoyed a nice reception and then headed out for a celebratory dinner at Ruth's Chris (such a good meal). My sister Amanda and her husband were able to join us for dinner and it was a good time! Here are some pic's of the day!

I like graphs

I am planning on doing a Best of Europe Post, but all the pictures are on Cam's computer... and it's alll the way upstairs and I don't feel like getting it right now.

As of lately i've liked to make graphs with random data I collect about my life. (side note- when we were in europe at the end of every day we wrote down everything we spent money on, I really enjoyed having all this financial data to make graphs with)

This summer has been an adventure with Cam and I all over the place... literally. Below is a chart of where I am spending/spent my time this summer.

pretty awesome summer I'd say! Cam's graph looks a little different than mine... he doesn't get to play at the cabin as much as I do, but he does get to go to scout camp for a few days!

For the time spent in Magrath, Cameron is working in Raymond building a house, and I'm working in Raymond at the farm safety centre, just some casual jobs that allowed us to take off all of may and 3 weeks off in june/july to spend at cabins. Come mid-August we'll be moving up to Edmonton and I will be looking for a real-job now that i've graduated university and Cam will be going back to school, one more year for him!

so far in Europe

We made it!!!

We left Calgary in snowy weather and arrived in Amsterdam. We spent our first 2 days in Amsterdam, where they were celebrating their national holiday, Queens Day. It was insane, people we drinking at 9am in the morning, and there were people everywhere. It reminded me of the red mile back when the flames went on their stanley cup run, but not just on one street...on all the streets of Amsterdam.

After Amsterdam we went to Brussels, got on a wrong train, got kicked off a train, but finally made it there. We we were fortunate enough to be able to stay with some friends of Cam's sister. They were very hospitable and we had a great time with them and in Brussels!

After Brussels we set off to Paris, we only spent 3 days in Paris and it was very rushed, my feet were killing me every night and I got the biggest blisters in the world. for one of our days in Paris we went out to Versailles, that place is Amazing! it was so fun to see and to walk around the Gardens to go to the Grand Trianon, and Mary's Antoinette hamlet, unfortunately our camera got stolen somewhere inbetween the gates leaving Versailles to the train station. Luckily I had uploaded my pictures the night before so we still had them! so we still had our pictures in front of the Eiffel Tower!

After Paris we took the night train to Rome! we shared our compartment thing with the French man who snored so loud, I did not get any sleep that night! Cam on the other hand slept surprisingly well.

Rome was very historical it was really interesting to see the buildings they built over 2000 years ago still intact.

When we entered into the Colosseum there was another couple beside us, speaking English we overheard the one girl say that 'This isn't that impressive' and continued to say how she didn't see the big deal about the Colosseum. Cam and I just laughed as we were in awe.

We hit all the big sites in Rome, and then headed down to Sorrento, where we currently are. It's been a nice break from the big tourist attractions down here. Tomorrow we're headed up to Florence!

Feels like Spring

This past week in Edmonton has been so nice (for edmonton that is). I don't think I've worn a jacket once, even though I probably should've a couple of times. Spring is always a fun time, as it marks the end of the school semester. Today I sat in my last class of my undergraduate career. It felt good. I can't believe that in 2 short weeks i'll be graduated!!! just 3 more exams, and one more essay..... this last essay is going to be the death of me, I feel like i've already checked out of writing essay mode.

What i'm most excited for though is right after exams when Cam and I go to Europe!! Just over 2 weeks until were in Amsterdam, and in exactly 3 weeks today, I'll have my picture taken in front of this:

I'm starting to get ready and pack, but I'm really uncertain as to what to bring. We'll be as far north as Amsterdam at the end of april, and Italy in mid may... so i'm not sure how warm of the clothes I need to bring as were going pretty far distances in a tricky season. Oh well, maybe i'll just have to buy some new clothes while i'm over there if I bring the wrong stuff.... that doesn't sound too bad!

Anyway, I really need to get back to studying, this was a nice little break, and hopefully while were gone I can update this thing more often to give my family an idea of what we're up too!

Cam has a Birthday

To celebrate Cam's Birthday we went out for a very classy dinner at IKEA for 99 cent meatballs! It was delicious

After IKEA we went and got our Curl on, Cam's sisters brought their kids, I think they really liked watching

After curling we went back to Diane's and had birthday cake. It was a good day. His actual birthday wasn't quite as eventful as we just went to church, and had dinner, but he finally got to open his presents!

Cam is now 25, which is getting pretty old for us here in Canada, but luckily for us he is still considered a youth in Europe! and we can get discounts for when we travel there this spring! That's right Cam and I are going to backpack Europe for 3 weeks this spring, so if anyone has any "Must See" places we're open for suggestions!

First Christmas Together

So this Christmas was mine and Cameron's first one together as a married couple! and it was a good one! We got to spend the first week (from the 22-27) in Magrath with Cam's family.

Cam and I on Christmas Eve

opening our Christmas Eve jammies

in our jammie's in front of the tree

Everyone who slept at Cam's Parents on Christmas eve in our jammies!

Then we travelled up to Calgary and spent the week there with my family. It was lots of fun! Cam and I enjoyed relaxing, reading our books, and going cross country skiing! I didn't get very many pictures of us in calgary. Maybe that should be my new years resolution to take more pictures... i'm still not sure if I believe in new years resolutions though...

Cam and I on New Years

All and all it was an awesome holiday, and Cam and I are both sad to be starting school again and back to our responsibilities here in edmonton.
